Before the actual request, some backstory, feel free to skip to the actual request:
As said in the titles , I am looking to replay , or better said , to play the next mystery dungeon game. I have played Blue Rescue Team when I was 12 , completed the main storyline and was deeply moved by the ending (cried a lot).
Since I was quite young back then, I played without knowing about movesets, type coverage and things like these, and despite that I didn't really have problems, because I was taking the jobs from the pelipper board one by one as well as exploring literally every single corner, and thus was always overleveled.
I have been playing Pokemon Go with my neighbour recently and the deep love I had for pokemon returned, thus I wanted to try mystery dungeon once again. BUT , in order to actually play the entire game start to finish (because I most of the time give up halfway through when replaying games) , I wanted to try the 'Explorers in the sky' storyline, as I heard a lot of good things about it, so I bought the game and was eager to play it when it arrived.
Started with the usual questions, however this time I was properly informed, and was looking to get Riolu and Pikachu(in the first game I had Machop-Pikachu) , played a bit , got one shotted by the first 'boss' with confusion, came back, and then my partner got one shotted in the next dungeon.
Now , I know that Pikachu can be great, but Riolu didn't really click with me, as the problem that I had in the original game reemerged : Flying and psychic moves completely annihilate me, and pokemon with that typing are relatively hard to deal with ,and deal a hell lot of damage to Pikachu before he can dish out the pain, as well as both members in my team being extremely squishy. I found myself using quickstrike at range , because I get munched up close. When I was looking at Riolu's moves and at some recommended movesets afterwards, I simply gave up , and wanted another team.
I went ahead and did quite a search and tried to find some good teams containing pikachu ( because I simply want him in my team) , and based on typing I see that either a water type or a grass type are preferred to deal with his weakness and for type coverage, and (I saw some discussions about Skitty as well for a romance story female partner).
And now the actual request
As I am not entirely familiar with the moves learned by all pokemon and their actual use in practice, I would like advice on a partner that can support me properly. What I mean by support? When I had Pikachu , I couldn't even imagine him without having quick atack when clearing monsters or thunder wave for protection,allowing my machop to sweep through. I am looking for something similar to that.
Considering I like Pikachu and want him as part of my team , I wanted to try him as my starter this time around, but I can also work with him as a partner. As I am being hit most of the time ,his paralyze ability and thunder wave can really come into play . He also has quick attack! I want my partner to be able to support me from the back properly, and to also be of assistance when to the side, or when having another team member in.
What can you mystery dungeon veterans recommend me?
TL;DR: Starting Explorers of the Sky , need help with a team containing Pikachu , preferable as starter . Looking for a partner that can properly support me from behind ( preferably have something similar to quick atack) , and to not be extremely squishy either. Looking at the water and grass partners as well as Skitty at the moment , am quite indecisive.

If this is considered a thread that 'has been posted multiple times, please search some more' I will not take offense should a mod decide to delete it, as I can only imagine this question being asked quite a lot of time since this is my first time on this sub. However I see that this topic has not been restricted in the general rules, thus deciding to post here. Also please keep in mind that having the team as close as possible to being 'the perfect team for you' really plays a big part in any pokemon game, and by searching I simply did not find as specific an answer as I wanted .
